Blog Submission Guidelines

Submission Guidelines (as of March 2020)

 

1. All current members of the Manhattan Institute for Psychoanalysis are eligible to submit blog posts. For the special series on COVID-19, submissions are open to non-members in the psychoanalytic community at large.
2. Blog posts should be written towards a “lay audience” (no jargon!) with some professional or personal interest in the field of psychoanalysis and/or trauma treatment.
3. All content submitted to the blog must be original, composed solely by the writer(s), and previously unpublished.
4. Submissions must be 1,000 words or less, and include a proposed title and brief professional bio.
5. References must be in APA style. Full APA style guidelines may be found here.
6. To protect patient confidentiality, clinical material must be sufficiently disguised or written permission from patient must be given. (See Rule #2 under Legal Rules below.)
7. The editors select blog submissions based on topicality, current need, appropriateness, and quality of writing. Writers may be asked to revise and/or revisit material for further consideration. Submissions that do not meet editorial standards may not be accepted for publication.
8. Blog editors reserve the right to change post titles and edit content at their discretion, without final approval by writers unless specifically requested.
9. All blog posts must be approved by MIP co-directors before posting.
10. It is expected and encouraged that writers check for and respond to comments in a timely fashion. This is particularly important in the 24-48 hours following a post’s publication.
11. By submitting to the blog, writers agree to adhere to these submission guidelines and legal rules.

Legal Rules

Rule 1: Do not use the blog for illegal purposes, including, but not limited to, defamation, violation of intellectual property laws, violation of antitrust or unfair competition laws or violation of criminal laws.

Rule 2: Do not use the blog in any manner that violates the confidentiality, privacy or privilege of any protected relationships, information or communications. Bloggers are responsible for maintaining awareness of and compliance with all laws, regulations and ethical principles mandating confidentiality of health information including but not limited to customary standards of care, regulations governing the conduct of licensed professionals, other state and Federal (e.g., HIPAA) regulations, and the ethical principles of all relevant professional associations and societies.

Rule 3: Do not intentionally interfere with or disrupt other bloggers, network services, or network equipment. Commercial use is prohibited, as is distribution of unsolicited advertising, chain letters, propagation of computer worms or viruses, and use of the blog to make unauthorized entry into any other forum accessible via the blog.

Rule 4: Do not use the blog for commercial purposes. “Commercial” as used for purposes of evaluating blog messages means communications whose primary purpose is to advance the business or financial interests of any person or entity, or otherwise to promote a financial transaction for the benefit of the author directly or indirectly. Examples of prohibited communications include advertisements for products or services, notices regarding rental of office space, or direct solicitations of blog members to purchase products or services.

Rule 5: Do not use this forum for any communication that could be construed in any way as support for or opposition to any candidate for a federal, state or local public office. Federal laws providing for the tax-exempt status of MIP absolutely forbid the use of MIP resources or facilities, including this blog forum, in any way that would even appear to support or oppose such a political candidate.
